Sarah Douglas (BAR104) tied with Malcolm Lamphere (USA15462) in overall points and in points after 2 drop races! But Sarah had 5 first place finishes compared to 4 for Malcolm to win the regatta. Top Canadians in 3rd, 4th and 5th were Jacob Chaplin-Saunders (CAN1200), Austin Stein (CAN1366) and Dominic Fritz (CAN1368). Top Canadian female in 6th place was Meredith Megarry (CAN1266). Aug 20, 2007 NO WIND - RACES CANCELLED!

Aug 19, 2007 Day 2 of the Canadians dawned brightly as the athletes looked forward to moderate winds and less chop. Four races were completed in a 6-10 knot shifty breeze. Most of the boats (split into 4 fleets) were able to complete the races with the lighter sailors benefitting from the wind conditions. Sarah Douglas (BAR104) moved into first place after 8 races (with one drop) followed by Jacob Chaplin-Saunders (CAN1200) and Austin Stein (CAN1366). Top Canadian female is Meredith Megarry (CAN1266). Click HERE for uptodate results. The Green Fleet also completed three races.

Aug 18, 2007 The 2007 Canadian Optimist Dinghy Championship completed Day 2 of the regatta on Sunday.

Last Thursday was the official start to the regatta with safety checks and measurements proceeding in a very organized and efficient manner for the 90 registrants. Several teams had arrived earlier in the week to train in local wind and learn the water current conditions.

Friday dawned bight and breezey. Unfortunately the breeze continued to increase during the day, and coupled with the low water conditions, the practice race was cancelled. Several teams and individuals made it onto the water and safety was a high priority. Talk about learning local conditions!

Saturday again produced bright, sunny conditions but also a little chillier. Due to the low water conditions, the Championship course was an hour tow in choppy waters and 15-17 knot wind. A rough ride indeed! Over 19 boats were unable to finish or start the four races that were held. By the end of the day gusts of 27 knots had been recorded. Click HERE for Day 1 Results. Overall leader is Jacob Chaplin-Saunders (CAN1200) followed closely by Dominic Fritz (CAN1358) and Erin Berry (CAN1190). An impressive performance was turned in by Sarah Douglas (BAR104) with three firsts and an OCS. The Green Fleet was moved into the inner harbour where abundant wind and current produced some exciting sailing.

Aug 16, 2007 Opti CORK ended with three races - two before the wind faded and the last one in the strongest thermal of the regatta. Ian Barrows (ISV8008) displayed his talents and easily won the regatta, followed bt Jacob Chaplin-Saunders (CAN1200) and Malcolm Lamphere (USA15462). Top female finisher was Sarah Douglas (BAR104) followed by Allyson Donahue (USA11856) and Meredith Megarry (CAN1266). Congratulations to Justin Cadieux (CAN64) for finishing first in the Green Fleet. Click HERE for complete results and Opti GREEN fleet.

Aug 14, 2007 After a short delay, the Kingston thermal set in shortly before noon, building to 18-20 knots with a 3 foot chop. Four races were completed with Ian Barrow (ISV8008) still in the lead followed by Jacob Chaplin-Saunder (CAN1200) and Sarah Douglas (BAR104). Sailing wraps up tomorrow. RESULTS.

Aug 13, 2007 Opti CORK in Kingston, ON is underway with 2 races completed the first day. Shifty winds prevented a third race from being set as a north wind battled the Kingston thermal. Overall leader is Ian Barrow (ISV8008) followed by Malcolm Lamphere (USA15462) and top Canadian in third place Jacob Chaplin-Saunders (CAN1200). Click HERE for complete results. Green Fleet sailed 6 races with Justin Cadeaux (USA64) leading. Top Canadian in third place is Julien Cadeaux (CAN1161). Click HERE for Green Fleet results.

Aug 12, 2007 The CYA Open Nationals, Ontario Under 13 Sailing Championships and the Fogh-Boorman hosted by Royal Hamilton Yacht Club concluded this weekend.
